Experiential Education

At Ohr Torah, we believe that informal education is an essential part of a quality learning experience. While strong academics and Torah learning are at the heart of our school, we also know that some of the most powerful learning happens outside of a textbook or lesson. Informal education gives students the opportunity to experience values, relationships, and personal growth in a way that feels real, memorable, and meaningful.

Through hands-on and relationship-based experiences, students grow not only academically, but also socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Informal programming creates space for students to practice important skills such as responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and self-awareness. It also helps children feel connected to their school community and to one another, which strengthens confidence and belonging.

Our informal programming plays a central role in helping students develop strong midos. Whether through chessed projects, special activities, class celebrations, or community-wide events, students learn how to think about others, contribute positively, and take pride in being part of something bigger than themselves.

Informal education is also one of the ways we bring the Jewish calendar to life. Rosh Chodesh and chagim are not only taught, they are experienced. Students participate in meaningful celebrations, discussions, and activities that help them build a genuine connection to Torah values and Yiddishkeit in a joyful and age-appropriate way.

At Ohr Torah, we view informal education as an important part of meeting the needs of the whole child. It helps our students grow into capable learners, kind friends, and proud members of Klal Yisrael, with strong values and a deep sense of purpose.
